The Fresher in Audio Recording is designed to provide you with applicable knowledge and skills in audio recording and music production. Students develop competencies in aural and music analysis, the use of audio hardware and software, microphone theory and technique, and the application of sound in media. Students will also learn how to apply their knowledge of acoustics in the recording studio, edit and manipulate audio, solve technical and artistic problems, and communicate with performers. Skills are developed through the execution of projects in various recording situations, studio settings, and musical genres.

The Ramji Audio Digital Studio houses an extensive selection of microphones and outboard gear. It is fully equipped with stereo, surround, and audio-for-video production. The Ramji Audio Digital Studio has an impressive range of rehearsal facilities – a room big enough to accommodate orchestral ensembles, spaces available to smaller bands, fully equipped with backline and vocal PA equipment, and a room set aside for percussionists.

The facilities also include a dedicated Music Lab and further rooms for solo instrumental practice. On the same level, students studying one of the technology modules on special offer have access to a dedicated studio space, including a High Definition recording studio with surround monitoring, and a software development / electroacoustic composition studio with multi-channel surround sound monitoring.

We also have a further ProTools editing and mixdown studio available. All recording studio facilities were designed with the help of acoustic consultants to ensure the highest standards of sound isolation and acoustic performance. The students will find computer clusters. The workstations that make up the music general cluster are available for students to check email, use the internet, and complete project work. The music multimedia cluster contains further high-specification workstations, complete with specialist audio recording, editing, and score writing software and associated audio interfaces and MIDI keyboard hardware.

Conveniently situated between the two computer clusters in the Music Helpdesk. One of the key hubs in the operation, the helpdesk is home to some items of bookable equipment, including microphones, portable recording kits, headphones, mixing desks, keyboards, amplifiers, digital cameras, and more. Managed by a knowledgeable technical staff, the Helpdesk serves as a hub for students to book rooms, seek technical assistance, and borrow CDs, books, and other study-related materials.
